Comedy show coming to town tonight

Are you ready to head out to the Rio tonight? Or just let another forgettable and dreary Monday night pass by?
The show at the Rio tonight is a live taping of a pilot of a potential Comedy Central series called “This Show Will Make You High.” It’s a sketch comedy show featuring a group called the Upright Citizens Brigade, the Chicago/New York/L.A. comedy troupe that has given the world Amy Poehler among others.
The UCB wants to get some electricity in their performance to impress the suits at Comedy Central, so they’re performing for free. And they specifically didn’t want jaded L.A. audiences, so they headed up the coast to Santa Cruz where they knew they could find some college-age crowds ready to be rowdy. So, if you come, by God, participate, cheer, boo, whatever’s appropriate.
The performers include long-time UCB front guy Matt Besser, Paul Rust of “Inglorious Basterds,” John Gemberling, Brett Gelman, Betty Sodaro and Jessica Williams.
It all starts at 8 p.m. and don’t let anybody try to sell you a ticket. It’s free.
