The Santa Cruz Cinema 9 in downtown Santa Cruz has announced that it will crank up its new 3-D digital projector on Friday for the first time. The Cinema 9 will be showing Oscar also-ran ‘Avatar’ in 3-D (which is really the only way to experience that particular film).
Of course, the Green Valley Cinemas in Watsonville has had “Avatar” in 3-D since that film opened back in December. For a couple of months there, Green Valley had a monopoly on 3-D in Santa Cruz County and, as a result, the theater attracted a lot of curious eyeballs from Santa Cruz, Capitola, Soquel and the San Lorenzo Valley.
The new projector at the Cinema 9 will be followed at the end of this month by 3-D at rival theaters in Scotts Valley and Capitola. For more on 3-D in Santa Cruz County, go here.
