The River Arts Festival, which brought artists and art-lovers to downtown Santa Cruz the past two years, won’t be happening in 2010.
The Festival’s organizers announced that the event has been suspended due to its lack of a fiscal sponsor. The Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce filled that role last year, but declined to do so again this year, and the Festival’s volunteer coordinators haven’t been able to find anyone else to assume that role.
Last year, the festival attracted thousands of people to downtown for its two-day event, which culminated in the Kinetic Art Cruz, a parade of rolling sculptures through downtown and along the river levee.
Event producers have not ruled out a return in 2011. We’ll have a story in Tuesday’s Sentinel.

Just yesterday all those thrilling comments on the Sentinel about many artistic talents in Santa Cruz and how so many arts are just flourishing here – and now this?!?! I do not get it at all. Perhaps some sort of priority thing for the homeboys.
